DARKLIGHT!!

Out there! In the world! For all to see! OUT THERE! As of TODAY!!!

(Okay... it's 'out there' in the US - it'll be 'out there' next week in Canada...)

I'm no longer a debut author. Okay... that's a little weird. And wonderful. And Crazy!!

I wanted to take the opportunity to say "thank you!" to all the people who made this happen for me - again - especially my phenomenal editor Laura and my astounding agent Jessica.

To celebrate, let me share a story of something pretty amazingly cool that happened to me last week:

I got to spend a couple of hours with a group of smart, talented, funny, fun, enthusiastic young readers from Cheyne Middleschool at the HarperCollins Canada offices. The kids were on a field trip to see what the internal working of a publishing house is really like. They had also been group-reading WONDROUS STRANGE prior to the trip and were all given advance reader copies of DARKLIGHT and lots of cool swag when they got the office!

What they didn't know was that I had been invited to come chat with them (over pizza, no less!) and answer any questions they had about the book and writing and sign their books and all that stuff.

What I didn't know was that the kids had put together two scenes from the book to do as dramatic presentations with narration and acting and awesomeness. I felt like Quentin the Director only with nothing to snark about! They were amazing. It was really the coolest thing in the world for me to be able to sit there and watch live action versions of my scenes. I almost cried - but opted instead for grinning like an idiot. It was pretty special.

Anyway, here is a picture of me (still grinning like an idiot) and the Cheyne students!

And me, waxing philosophical no doubt about... something.

Thank you Harper Collins and Cheyne Middleschool for a day that I won't soon forget!
And thank you to all my readers! I hope you enjoy the continuing adventures of Sonny and Kelley and company in DARKLIGHT!
It's OUT THERE!

Hi Lesley,

I was wondering if you know why the release date of Darklight has been changed to Feb 2010 in Canada? I was at Chapters website and they changed the date from Dec 22 to Dec 29 and then to Feb 2, 2010!!! Why, oh why? I've been waiting for this book forever it seems! Please let us know what's going on!!

Hi Anonymous!

I'm not exactly sure why the date has been changed on the Chapters website. I know that HarperCollins Canada had pushed the release back to Dec 29 but I have no idea what the February thing is. I will ask my publisher about it after the holiday and see if I can find out what's going on.

(In the meantime, If you're desperate, Amazon.com ships to Canada and they have lovely hard-cover editions!)

Sorry about the confusion! I will try to get to the bottom of things.

Hey Lesley!
Love the pictures!
It was SOOO fun meeting you with BOOKED! Yay us... AND YOU! :D

I thought you might want to read my review on your book so here it is!

I really JUST finished Darklight. Wow, This was amazing!! For me Darklight topped Wondrous Strange! Thats how good I thought it was. I really just started it today... and ended up finishing it today, Which I usually don't do, but Darklight had me turning the pages nonstop.
Yeah.. I thought everything was really good, but if theres one thing I would yell at Leslie for writing, It's the ending. Not wanting to spoil the book for others that haven't finished reading yet, thats all I'm going to say on that topic - But "Nooooo!!! Why!?" was what I was thinking at that part.

All I can say now is WOW! Lesley's really outdone herself!! Funny at times, Sad at times... Just what a perfect read needs!

All in all, I would rate Darklight a 5/5!
Ahh! Awaiting the next book, me is! :)

There! That's my review on Darklight! Great job Lesley, Keep up the Greeaatt work!
-Appluad, Applaud-
