"It's... the Staypuft Marshmallow Man..."

"Well now there's something you don't see everyday..."

SO. I made John watch Ghostbusters with me the other night. It wasn’t actually a chore or anything and, in fact, he was more than half-expecting it ever since I got back from the Large Fruit. Mostly because of the fact that, as impressive as the Metropolitan Library is as a Temple of Knowledge and Repository of Yummy Books and Stuff, it’s also where Venkman, Stanz and Spengler had their first real case: “Peter, at 1:40 pm at the main branch of the New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue, 10 people witnessed a free-floating full-torso vaporous apparition”. Sadly, said apparition must have been re-shelving in the restricted rare books section during our visit, as I didn’t notice her hovering around anywhere... “Get her!...” Hee hee hee...

Also, the Carriage-drivin’ Lady in Central Park happened to point out the building the that was used as “Spook Central” – Dana Barrett’s apartment in the movie. So that was cool.

These two things made the movie stick in my mind and, frankly, I haven’t shut up about it since my return. So, to placate/silence me, John popped in the DVD. And – hang on a dang minute!! - I suddenly realized there was another connection to my very own NY jaunt! In the scene where the Demon Dog is chasing Lewis Tully, the restaurant where he gets cornered up against the windows and subsequently transformed into Vince Glortho, Keymaster of Gozer (I’m giggling just typing that) is actually the Tavern on the Green (see below for initial reaction to this incredibly whacky place – the one with the Kryptonite ceiling fixture...) Hee! Needless to say, John’s plan backfired and I proceeded to yammer on about that for the next several hours/ days. Heh.

“Many Shevs and Zuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you!” That’s right. I geek therefore I am.

Pictures forthcoming...

  1. You should start your own Ghostbusters tour bus thing of New York! Or if there already is such a thing, which I imagine there is, you could be their spokes-person And of course I will tag along at the back of the group, happlessly taking photographs.

(Is it just me or are those verification word thingys getting longer and longer?)
