About Last Night

Guy Gavriel Kay is on a book tour for his latest, Ysabel. Last night, I had the distinct pleasure of attending a reading/'evening with' event at UofT's Hart House Theatre, hosted by Mark Askwith - the dude most reponsible for 'Prisoners of Gravity' and a producer at SPACE.

It was a little like being in the audience for a taping of Inside the Actor's Studio - except without the uncomfortable-making interviewer-fawning and equally uncomfortable-making audience-fawning and without the 'what's your favorite swear-word?' question and with a writer instead of an actor and okay so it really wasn't anything like being in the audience for a taping of Inside the Actor's Studio. Which is probably a good thing.

What it was, however, was the kind of evening that makes you think - okay, made ME think - about the whole writing "process", in general. Except I sort of hate that phrase...
More on that in a post to follow.
